"Dear Mum! I have finally arrived here. The 7th Air Force Replacement Unit has a huge apparatus for training us. There are thirty of us, all of whom are to be trained as observers. The best of us will then be selected and kept on. Under these circumstances, it is of course extremely difficult and quite doubtful whether I will be among those selected."
