17GW493 - 17GW502 Richthofen was buried with full military honours, with much saluting and presenting of arms, on 22 April 1918 at Bertangles. Six Australian pilots served as pall bearers. However, some of the local people did not view the Boche warrior and slayer of their aviators with the same respect and that night the grave was desecrated.
